Principle
DMI Service Layer is part of Dell's Open Manage software and is the collection of MIFs (Management Information Files) used by the DMI (Desktop Management Interface) and MOFs (Manage Object Files) used by the CIM (Common Information Model). Dell OpenManage Client Instrumentation collects information on several aspects of the computer (BIOS, drivers, registry, etc.) and enables remote management applications to access this information, monitor this information, or control the state of the machine (turn on/off, wakeup, etc.). Dell OpenManage Client Instumentation takes all this information and converts it to/from industry standards(CIM, DMI) so these remote management applications (ie. Dell OpenManage IT Assistant) can correctly perform. OpenManage can also log events like fan speed statistics, changes in hardware, temperature and voltage statistics, and many more, even if the computers case was opened.
